MESSAGE FOR CONTEMPLATIOON 1161
Radhe krishna,
Have a blessed day,
'SAMA' AND 'DAMA'
Swami Sivananda
Thus the mind is checked directly from wandering through the practice of Sama and Dama. Its outgoing tendencies are curbed. Sankalpas of objects are eradicated. The eyes run outside to see a beautiful woman with lustful thoughts. If you at once withdraw the eye from that object, this practice is called Dama. You should restrain the mind also through the process of withdrawal and substitution by holy thoughts. If you want to practise Sama, you should cultivate Viveka or discrimination between the real and the unreal, and Vairagya or dispasa
sion for the enjoyment of objects. Then only will you succeed in the practice of Sama.
Just as you remove at once from your shoes a pebble that troubles you, so also you must be able to remove at once any tormenting thought from your mind. - Swami Sivananda Kindly continue to do your Japa. Wherever your mind moves feel there also, that there is God. Make the mind understand that there is no place left where there is no God. There is God in every speech. Watch the mind steadily. Let it wander for some time. Then try to bring it back upon your chosen ideal. Loud recitation of God’s Name helps to develop concentration. If you are not able to read books then request someone in the house to read for you an hour every day some useful spiritual literature. Swami Chidananda Chant the Maaha Mantra
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
