॥ श्रीसूर्यसहस्रनामस्तोत्रम् १ ॥

। अथ भविष्यपुराणान्तर्गत-सूर्यसहस्रनामस्तोत्रम् ।
ॐ विश्वजिद् विश्वजित्कर्ता विश्वात्मा विश्वतोमुखः ।
विश्वेश्वरो विश्वयोनिर्नियतात्मा जितेन्द्रियः ॥ १॥

कालाश्रयः कालकर्ता कालहा कालनाशनः ।
महायोगी महाबुद्धिर्महात्मा सुमहाबलः ॥ २॥

प्रभुर्विभुर्भूतनाथो भूतात्मा भुवनेश्वरः ।
भूतभव्यो भावितात्मा भूतान्तःकरणः शिवः ॥ ३॥

शरण्यः कमलानन्दो नन्दनो नन्दवर्धनः ।
वरेण्यो वरदो योगी सुसंयुक्तः प्रकाशकः ॥ ४॥

वाक्प्राणः परमः प्राणः प्रीतात्मा प्रियतः प्रियः ।
नयः सहस्रपात् साधुर्दिव्यकुण्डलमण्डितः ॥ ५॥

अव्यङ्गधारी धीरात्मा प्रचेता वायुवाहनः ।
समाहितमतिर्धाता विधाता कृतमङ्गलः ॥ ६॥

कपर्दी कल्पकृद्रुद्रः सुमना धर्मवत्सलः ।
समायुक्तो विमुक्तात्मा कृतात्मा कृतिनांवरः ॥ ७॥

अविचिन्त्यवपुः श्रेष्ठो महायोगी महेश्वरः ।
कान्तः कामादिरादित्यो नियतात्मा निराकुलः ॥ ८॥

कामः कारुणिकः कर्ता कमलाकरबोधनः ।
सप्तसप्तिरचिन्त्यात्मा महाकारुणिकोत्तमः ॥ ९॥

सञ्जीवनो जीवनाथो जगज्जीवो जगत्पतिः ।
अजयो विश्वनिलयः संविभागो वृषध्वजः ॥ १०॥

वृषाकपिः कल्पकर्ता कल्पान्तकरणो रविः ।
एकचक्ररथो मौनी सुरथो रथिनांवरः ॥ ११॥

अक्रोधनो रश्मिमाली तेजोराशिर्विभावसुः ।
दिव्यकृद् दिनकृद् देवो देवदेवो दिवस्पतिः ॥ १२॥

धीरानाथो हविर्होता दिव्यबाहुर्दिवाकरः ।
यज्ञो यज्ञपतिः पूषा स्वर्णरेताः परावहः ॥ १३॥

परापरज्ञस् तरणिरंशुमाली मनोहरः ।
प्राज्ञः प्रजापतिः सूर्यः सविता विष्णुरंशुमान् ॥ १४॥

सदागतिर्गन्धबाहुर्विहितो विधिराशुगः ।
पतङ्गः पतगः स्थाणुर्विहङ्गो विहगो वरः ॥ १५॥

हर्यश्वो हरिताश्वश्च हरिदश्वो जगत्प्रियः ।
त्र्यम्बकः सर्वदमनो भावितात्मा भिषग्वरः ॥ १६॥

आलोककृल्लोकनाथो लोकालोकनमस्कृतः ।
कालः कल्पान्तको वह्निस्तपनः सम्प्रतापनः ॥ १७॥

विरोचनो विरूपाक्षः सहस्राक्षः पुरन्दरः ।
सहस्ररश्मिर्मिहिरो विविधाम्बरभूषणः ॥ १८॥

खगः प्रतर्दनो धन्यो हयगो वाग्विशारदः ।
श्रीमांश्च शिशिरो वाग्मी श्रीपतिः श्रीनिकेतनः ॥ १९॥

श्रीकण्ठः श्रीधरः श्रीमान् श्रीनिवासो वसुप्रदः ।
कामचारो महामायो महेशो विदिताशयः ॥ २०॥

तीर्थक्रियावान् सुनयो विभवो भक्तवत्सलः ।
कीर्तिः कीर्तिकरो नित्यः कुण्डली कवची रथी ॥ २१॥

हिरण्यरेताः सप्ताश्वः प्रयतात्मा परन्तपः ।
बुद्धिमान् अमरश्रेष्ठो रोचिष्णुः पातशासनः ॥ २२॥

समुद्रो धनदो धाता मान्धाता कश्मलापहः ।
तमोघ्नो ध्वान्तहा वह्निर्होतान्तःकरणो गुहः ॥ २३॥

पशुमान् प्रयतानन्दो भूतेशः श्रीमतांवरः ।
नित्योऽदितो नित्यरथः सुरेशः सुरपूजितः ॥ २४॥

अजितो विजयो जेता जङ्गमस्थावरात्मकः ।
जीवानन्दो नित्यकामी विजेता विजयप्रदः ॥ २५॥

पर्जन्योऽग्निः स्थितिस्थेयः स्थविरोऽणुर्निरञ्जनः ।
प्रद्योतनो रथारूढः सर्वलोकप्रकाशकः ॥ २६॥

ध्रुवो मेधी महावीर्यो हंसः संसारतारकः ।
सृष्टिकर्ता क्रियाहेतुर्मार्तण्डो मरुताम्पतिः ॥ २७॥

मरुत्वान् दहनः स्पष्टा भगो भाग्योऽर्यमापतिः ।
वरुणांशो जगन्नाथः कृतकृत्यः सुलोचनः ॥ २८॥

विवस्वान् भानुमान् कार्यकारणं तेजसांनिधिः ।
असङ्गवामी तिग्मांशुर्धर्मादिर्दीप्तदीधितिः ॥ २९॥

सहस्रदीधितिर्भघ्नः सहस्रांशुर्दिवाकरः ।
गभस्तिमान् दीधितिमान् स्रग्विमान् अतुलद्युतिः ॥ ३०॥

भास्करः सुरकार्यज्ञः सर्वज्ञस् तीक्ष्णदीधितिः ।
सुरज्येष्ठः सुरपतिर्बहुज्ञोवचसाम्पतिः ॥ ३१॥

तेजोनिधिर्बृहत्तेजा बृहत्कीर्तिर्बृहस्पतिः ।
अहिमानूर्जितो धीमान् आमुक्तः कीर्तिवर्धनः ॥ ३२॥

महावैद्याग्रेणपतिर्गणेशो गणनायकः ।
तीव्रप्रतापनस् तापी तापनो विश्वतापनः ॥ ३३॥

कार्तस्वरो हृषीकेशः पद्मानन्दोऽभिनन्दितः ।
पद्मनाभोऽमृताहारः स्थितिमान् केतुमान् नभः ॥ ३४॥

अनाद्यन्तोऽच्युतो विश्वो विश्वामित्रो घृणी विराट् ।
आमुक्तः कवची वाग्मी कञ्चुकी विश्वभावनः ॥ ३५॥

अनिमित्तगतिः श्रेष्ठः शरण्यः सर्वतोमुखः ।
विगाहीरेणुरसहः समायुक्तः समाहितः ॥ ३६॥

धर्मकेतुर्धर्मरतिः संहर्ता संयमोयमः ।
प्रणतार्तिहरो वादी सिद्धकार्यो जनेश्वरः ॥ ३७॥

नभो विगाहनः सत्यः स्थामसः सुमनो हरः ।
हारी हरिर्हरो वायुरृतुः कालानलद्युतिः ॥ ३८॥

सुखसेव्यो महातेजा जगतामन्तकारणम् ।
महेन्द्रो विष्टुतः स्तोत्रं स्तुतिहेतुः प्रभाकरः ॥ ३९॥

सहस्रकल आयुष्मान् अरोषः सुखदः सुखी ।
व्याधिहा सुखदः सौख्यं कल्याणः कल्पिनांवरः ॥ ४०॥

आरोग्यकर्मणां सिद्धिर्वृद्धिरृद्धिरहस्पतिः ।
हिरण्यरेता आरोग्यं विद्वान् बन्धुर्बुधो महान् ॥ ४१॥

प्रणवान् धृतिमान् धर्मो धर्मकर्ता रुचिप्रदः ।
सर्वप्रियः सर्वसहः सर्वशत्रुनिवारुणः ॥ ४२॥

प्रांशुर्विद्योतनो द्योतः सहस्रकिरणः कृतिः ।
केयूरभूषणोद्भासी भासितो भासनोऽनलः ॥ ४३॥

शरण्यार्तिहरो होता खद्योतः खगसत्तमः ।
सर्वद्योतोऽमवद्द्योतः सर्वद्युतिकरोऽमलः ॥ ४४॥

कल्याणः कल्याणकरः कल्पः कल्पकरः कविः ।
कल्याणकृत् कल्पवपुः सर्वकल्याणभाजनः ॥ ४५॥

शान्तिप्रियः प्रसन्नात्मा प्रशान्तः प्रशमप्रियः ।
उदारकर्मा सुनयः सुवर्चा वर्चसोज्ज्वलः ॥ ४६॥

वर्चस्वी वर्चसामीशस् त्रैलोक्येशो वशानुगः ।
तेजस्वी सुयशावर्णिर्वर्णाध्यक्षो बलिप्रियः ॥ ४७॥

यशस्वी वेदनिलयस् तेजस्वी प्रकृतिस्थितः ।
आकाशगः शीघ्रगतिराशुगः श्रुतिमान् खगः ॥ ४८॥

गोपतिर्ग्रहदेवेशो गोमान् एकः प्रभञ्जनः ।
जनिताप्रजगण्डीवो दीपः सर्वप्रकाशकः ॥ ४९॥

कर्मसाक्षी योगनित्यो नभस्वान् असुरान्तकः ।
रक्षोघ्नो विघ्नशमनः किरीटी सुमनःप्रियः ॥ ५०॥

मरीचिमाली सुमतिः कृतातिथ्योऽविशेषतः ।
शिष्टाचारः शुभाकारः स्वाचारा चारतत्परः ॥ ५१॥

मन्दारो माठरो रेणुः क्षोभणः पक्षिणाङ्गुरुः ।
स्वविशिष्टो विशिष्टात्मा विधेयो ज्ञानशोभनः ॥ ५२॥

महाश्वेता प्रियो ज्ञेयः सामगो मोददायकः ।
सर्ववेदप्रगीतात्मा सर्ववेदो गयालयः ॥ ५३॥

वेदमूर्तिश्चतुर्वेदो वेदभृद् वेदपारगः ।
क्रियावान् अतिरोचिष्णुर्वरीयांश्च वरप्रदः ॥ ५४॥

व्रतधारी व्रतधरो लोकबन्धुरलङ्कृतः ।
अलङ्काराक्षरो दिव्यविद्यावान् विदिताशयः ॥ ५५॥

अकारो भूषणो भूष्यो भूष्णुर्भवनपूजितः ।
चक्रपाणिर्वज्रधरः सुवेशो लोकवत्सलः ॥ ५६॥

राज्ञीपतिर्महाबाहुः प्रकृतिर्विकृतिर्गुणः ।
अन्धकारापहः श्रेष्ठो युगावर्तो युगादिकृत् ॥ ५७॥

अप्रमेयः सदायोगी निरहङ्कार ईश्वरः ।
शुभप्रदः शुभशोभा शुभकर्मा शुभास्पदः ॥ ५८॥

सत्यवान् धृतिमान् अर्च्यो ह्यकारो वृद्धिदोऽनलः ।
बलभृद् बलगो बन्धुर्बलवान् हरिणांवरः ॥ ५९॥

अनङ्गोऽनागराणिन्द्रः पद्मयोनिर्गणेश्वरः ।
संवत्सर ऋतुर्नेता कालचक्रप्रवर्तकः ॥ ६०॥

पद्मेक्षरः पद्मयोनिः प्रभवोऽनसरद्युतिः ।
सुमूर्तिः सुमतिः सोमो गोविन्दो जगदादिजः ॥ ६१॥

पीतवासाः कृष्णवासा दिग्वासातीन्द्रियो हरिः ।
अतीन्द्रोऽनेकरूपात्मा स्कन्दः परपुरञ्जयः ॥ ६२॥

शक्तिमान् सूरधृग् भास्वान् मोक्षहेतुरयोनिजः ।
सर्वदर्शोऽदितो दर्शो दुःस्वप्नाशुभनाशनः ॥ ६३॥

माङ्गल्यकर्ता करणिर्वेगवान् कश्मलापहः ।
स्पष्टाक्षरो महामन्त्रो विशाखो यजनप्रियः ॥ ६४॥

विश्वकर्मा महाशक्तिर्ज्योतिरीशविहङ्गमः ।
विचक्षणो दक्ष इन्द्रः प्रत्यूहः प्रियदर्शनः ॥ ६५॥

अश्विनौ वेदनिलयो वेदविद् विदिताशयः ।
प्रभाकरो जितरिपुः सुजनोऽरुणसारथिः ॥ ६६॥

कुबेरसुरथः स्कन्दो महितोऽभिहितो गुहुः ।
ग्रहराजो ग्रहपतिर्ग्रहनक्षत्रमण्डनः ॥ ६७॥

भास्करः सततानन्दो नन्दनो नन्दिवर्धनः ।
मङ्गलोऽप्यथ मङ्गलवान् माङ्गल्योऽमङ्गलापहः ॥ ६८॥

मङ्गलाचारचरितः शीर्णः सर्वव्रतो व्रती ।
चतुर्मुखः पद्ममाली पूतात्मा प्रणतार्तिहा ॥ ६९॥

अकिञ्चनः सत्यसन्धो निर्गुणो गुणवान् गुणी ।
सम्पूर्णः पुण्डरीकाक्षो विधेयो योगतत्परः ॥ ७०॥

सहस्रांशुः क्रतुपतिः सर्वस्वं सुमतिः सुवाक् ।
सुभामनो माल्यदामा घृताहारो हरिप्रियः ॥ ७१॥

ब्रह्मप्रचेता प्रथितः प्रतीतात्मा स्थिरात्मकः ।
शतबिन्दुः शतमखो गरीयान् अनलप्रभुः ॥ ७२॥

धीरो महत्तरो धन्यः पुरुषः पुरुषोत्तमः ।
विद्याधराधिराजोऽहिविद्यावान् भूतिदस्थितः ॥७३॥

अनिर्देश्यवपुः श्रीमान् विश्वात्मा बहुमङ्गलः ।
सुस्थितः सुरथः स्वर्णो मोक्षाधारनिकेतनः ॥ ७४॥

निर्द्वन्द्वो द्वन्द्वहा सर्गः सर्वगः सम्प्रकाशयः ।
दयालुः सूक्ष्मरीः शान्तिः क्षेमाक्षेमस्थितिप्रियः ॥ ७५॥

भूतरो भूपतिर्वक्ता पवित्रात्मा त्रिलोचनः ।
महावराहः प्रियकृद् धाता भोक्ताभयप्रदः ॥ ७६॥

चतुर्वेदधरो नित्यो विनिद्रो विविधाशनः ।
चक्रवर्ती धृतिकरः सम्पूर्णोऽथ महेश्वरः ॥ ७७॥

विचित्ररथ एकाकी सप्तसप्तिः परात्परः ।
सर्वोदधिस्थितिकरः स्थितिस्थेयः स्थितिप्रियः ॥ ७८॥

निष्कलः पुष्करनिभो वसुमान् वासवप्रियः ।
वसुमान् वासवस्वामी वसुराता वसुप्रदः ॥ ७९॥

बलवान् ज्ञानवांस्तत्त्वम् ओङ्कारस् तृषुसंस्थितः ।
सङ्कल्पयोनिर्दिनकृद् भगवान् कारणावहः ॥ ८०॥

नीलकण्ठो धनाध्यक्षश्चतुर्वेदप्रियंवदः ।
वषट्कारो हुतं होता स्वाहाकारो हुताहुतिः ॥ ८१॥

जनार्दनो जनानन्दो नरो नारायणोऽम्बुदः ।
स्वर्णाङ्गक्षपणो वायुः सुरा सुरनमस्कृतः ॥ ८२॥

विग्रहो विमलो बिन्दुर्विशोको विमलद्युतिः ।
द्योतितो द्योतनो विद्वान् विविद्वान् वरदो बली ॥ ८३॥

धर्मयोनिर्महामोहो विष्णुभ्राता सनातनः ।
सावित्रीभावितो राजा विसृतो विघृणी विराट् ॥ ८४॥

सप्तार्चिः सप्ततुरगः सप्तलोकनमस्कृतः ।
सम्पन्नोऽथ जगन्नाथः सुमनाः शोभनप्रियः ॥ ८५॥

सर्वात्मा सर्वकृत् सृष्टिः सप्तिमान् सप्तमीप्रियः ।
सुमेधा माधवो मेध्यो मेधावी मधुसूदनः ॥ ८६॥

अङ्गिरा गतिकालज्ञो धूमकेतुसुकेतनः ।
सुखी सुखप्रदः सौख्यं कामी कान्तिप्रियो मुनिः ॥ ८७॥

सन्तापनः सन्तपन आतपी तपसाम्पतिः ।
उग्रश्रवा सहस्रोस्रः प्रियङ्कारो प्रियङ्करः ॥ ८८॥

प्रीतो विमन्युरम्भोदो जीवनो जगताम्पतिः ।
जगत्पिता प्रीतमनाः सर्वः शर्वो गुहावलः ॥ ८९॥

सर्वगो जगदानन्दो जगन्नेता सुरारिहा ।
श्रेयः श्रेयस्करो ज्यायानुत्तमोत्तम उत्तमः ॥ ९०॥

उत्तमोऽथ महामेरुर्धारणो धरणीधरः ।
धाराधरो धर्मराजो धर्माधर्मप्रवर्तकः ॥ ९१॥

रथाध्यक्षो रथपतिस् त्वरमाणोऽमितानलः ।
उत्तरोऽनुत्तरस् तापी तारापतिरपाम्पतिः ॥ ९२॥

पुण्यसङ्कीर्तनः पुण्यो हेतुर्लोकत्रयाश्रयः ।
स्वर्भानुर्विहगारिष्टो विशिष्टोत्कृष्टकर्मकृत् ॥ ९३॥

व्याधिप्रणाशनः क्षेमः शूरः सर्वजिताम्बरः ।
एकनाथो रथाधीशः शनैश्चरपितासितः ॥ ९४॥

वैवस्वतगुरुर्मृत्युर्धर्मनित्यो महाव्रतः ।
प्रलम्बहारः सञ्चारी प्रद्योतो द्योतितोऽनलः ॥ ९५॥

सन्तानकृत् परो मन्त्रो मन्त्रमूर्तिर्महाबलः ।
श्रेष्ठात्मा सुप्रियः शम्भुर्महतामीश्वरेश्वरः ॥ ९६॥

संसारगतिविच्छेता संसारार्णवतारकः ।
सप्तजिह्वः सहस्रार्ची रत्नगर्भोऽपराजितः ॥ ९७॥

धर्मकेतुरमेयात्मा धर्माधर्मवरप्रदः ।
लोकसाक्षी लोकगुरुर्लोकेशश् छन्दवाहनः ॥ ९८॥

धर्मरूपः सूक्ष्मवायुर्धनुष्पाणिर्धनुर्धरः ।
पिनाकधृन् महोत्साहो नैकमायो महाशनः ॥ ९९॥

वारः शक्तिमतांश्रेष्ठः सर्वशस्त्रभृतांवरः ।
ज्ञानगम्यो दुराराध्यो लोहिताङ्गोऽरिमर्दनः ॥ १००॥

अनन्तो धर्मदो नित्यो धर्मकृच्चित् त्रिविक्रमः ।
दैवत्रस् त्र्यक्षरो मध्यो नीलाङ्गो नीललोहितः ॥ १०१॥

एकोऽनेकस् त्रयीव्यासः सविता समितिञ्जयः ।
शार्ङ्गधन्वानलो भीमः सर्वप्रहरणायुधः ॥ १०२॥

परमेष्ठी परञ्ज्योतिर्नाकपाली दिवस्पतिः ।
वदान्यो वासुकिर्वैद्य आत्रेयोऽतिपराक्रमः ॥ १०३॥

द्वापरः परमोदारः परमब्रह्मचर्यवान् ।
उद्दीप्तवेषो मुकुटी पद्महस्तोऽहिमांशुभृत् ॥ १०४॥

स्मितः प्रसन्नवदनः पद्मोदरनिभाननः ।
सायन्दिवा दिव्यवपुरनिर्देश्यो महारथः ॥ १०५॥

महारथो महानीशः शेषः सत्त्वरजस्तमः ।
धृतातपत्रः प्रतिमो विमर्शी निर्णयस्थितः ॥ १०६॥

अहिंसकः शुद्धमतिरद्वितीयो विमर्दनः ।
सर्वदो धनदो मोक्षो विहारी बहुदायकः ॥ १०७॥

ग्रहनाथो ग्रहपतिर्ग्रहेशस् तिमिरापहः ।
मनो हरवपुः शुभ्रः शोभनः सुप्रभाननः ॥ १०८॥

सुप्रभः सुप्रभाकारः सुनेत्रो निक्षुभापतिः ।
राज्ञीप्रियः शब्दकरो ग्रहेशस् तिमिरापहः ॥ १०९॥

सैंहिकेयरिपुर्देवो वरदो वरनायकः ।
चतुर्भुजो महायोगी योगीश्वरपतिस् तथा ॥ ११०॥

अनादिरूपोऽदितिजो रत्नकान्तिः प्रभामयः ।
जगत्प्रदीपो विस्तीर्णो महाविस्तीर्णमण्डलः ॥ १११॥

एकचक्ररथः स्वर्णरथः स्वर्णशरीरधृक् ।
निरालम्बो गगनरो धर्मकर्मप्रभावकृत् ॥ ११२॥

धर्मात्मा कर्मणांसाक्षी प्रत्यक्षः परमेश्वरः ।
मेरुसेवी सुमेधावी मेरुरक्षाकरो महान् ॥ ११३॥

आधारभूको रतिमांस्तथा च धनधान्यकृत् ।
पापसन्तापसंहर्ता मनोवाञ्छितदायकः ॥ ११४॥

लोकहर्ता राज्यदायी रमणीयगुणोऽनृणी ।
कालत्रयानन्तरूपो मुनिवृन्दनमस्कृतः ॥ ११५॥

सन्ध्यारागकरः सिद्धः सन्ध्यावन्दनवन्दितः ।
साम्राज्यदाननिरतः समाराधनतोषवान् ॥ ११६॥

भक्तदुःखक्षयकरो भवसागरतारकः ।
भयापहर्ता भगवान् अप्रमेयपराक्रमः ॥ ११७॥

मनुस्वामी मनुपतिर्मान्यो मन्वन्तराधिपः ॥ ११८॥

॥ सूर्योपनिषत् ॥

अथर्ववेदीय सामान्योपनिषत् ।

सूदितस्वातिरिक्तारिसूरिनन्दात्मभावितम् ।
सूर्यनारायणाकारं नौमि चित्सूर्यवैभवम् ॥

ॐ भद्रं कर्णेभिः श्रुणुयाम देवाः । भद्रं
पश्येमाक्षभिर्यजत्राः ।
स्थिरैरङ्गैस्तुष्टुवांसस्तनूभिर्व्यशेम देवहितं यदायुः ।
स्वस्ति न इन्द्रो वृद्धश्रवाः ।  स्वस्ति नः पूषा विश्ववेदाः ।
स्वस्ति नस्तार्क्ष्यो अरिष्टनेमिः । स्वस्ति नो बृहस्पतिर्दधातु ॥

हरिः ॐ अथ सूर्याथर्वाङ्गिरसं व्याख्यास्यामः ।
ब्रह्मा ऋषिः । गायत्री छन्दः । आदित्यो देवता ।
हंसः सोऽहमग्निनारायणयुक्तं बीजम् । हृल्लेखा शक्तिः ।
वियदादिसर्गसंयुक्तं कीलकम् ।
चतुर्विधपुरुषार्थसिद्ध्यर्थे विनियोगः ।
षट्स्वरारूढेन बीजेन षडङ्गं रक्ताम्बुजसंस्थितम् ।
सप्ताश्वरथिनं हिरण्यवर्णं चतुर्भुजं
पद्मद्वयाभयवरदहस्तं कालचक्रप्रणेतारं
श्रीसूर्यनारायणं य एवं वेद स वै ब्राह्मणः ।

सूर्याद्यज्ञः पर्जन्योऽन्नमात्मा नमस्त आदित्य ।
त्वमेव प्रत्यक्षं कर्मकर्तासि । त्वमेव प्रत्यक्षं ब्रह्मासि ।
त्वमेव प्रत्यक्षं विष्णुरसि ।
त्वमेव प्रत्यक्षं रुद्रोऽसि । त्वमेव प्रत्यक्षमृगसि ।

आदित्याद्वायुर्जायते । आदित्याद्भूमिर्जायते । आदित्यादापो

आदित्याद्व्योम दिशो जायन्ते । आदित्याद्देवा जायन्ते ।
आदित्याद्वेदा जायन्ते ।
आदित्यो वा एष एतन्मण्डलं तपति । असावादित्यो ब्रह्म ।
आदित्योऽन्तःकरणमनोबुद्धिचित्ताहङ्काराः । आदित्यो वै
व्यानः समानोदानोऽपानः प्राणः ।
आदित्यो वै श्रोत्रत्वक्चक्षूरसनघ्राणाः । आदित्यो वै
वाक्पाणिपादपायूपस्थाः ।
आदित्यो वै शब्दस्पर्शरूपरसगन्धाः । आदित्यो वै
वचनादानागमनविसर्गानन्दाः ।
आनन्दमयो ज्ञानमयो विज्ञानानमय आदित्यः । नमो मित्राय
भानवे मृत्योर्मा पाहि ।
भ्राजिष्णवे विश्वहेतवे नमः । सूर्याद्भवन्ति भूतानि
सूर्येण पालितानि तु ।
सूर्ये लयं प्राप्नुवन्ति यः सूर्यः सोऽहमेव च । चक्षुर्नो
देवः सविता चक्षुर्न उत पर्वतः ।
चक्षुर्धाता दधातु नः । आदित्याय विद्महे सहस्रकिरणाय
धीमहि । तन्नः सूर्यः प्रचोदयात् ।
सविता पश्चात्तात्सविता
पुरस्तात्सवितोत्तरात्तात्सविताधरात्तात् ।
सविता नः सुवतु सर्वतातिं सविता नो रासतां दीर्घमायुः ।
ॐइत्येकाक्षरं ब्रह्म । घृणिरिति द्वे अक्षरे । सूर्य
इत्यक्षरद्वयम् । आदित्य इति त्रीण्यक्षराणि ।
एतस्यैव सूर्यस्याष्टाक्षरो मनुः । यः सदाहरहर्जपति स
वै ब्राह्मणो भवति स वै ब्राह्मणो भवति ।
सूर्याभिमुखो जप्त्वा महाव्याधिभयात्प्रमुच्यते ।
अलक्ष्मीर्नश्यति । अभक्ष्यभक्षणात्पूतो भवति ।
अगम्यागमनात्पूतो भवति । पतितसम्भाषणात्पूतो भवति ।
असत्सम्भाषणात्पूतो भवति ।
मध्याह्ने सूराभिमुखः पठेत् ।
सद्योत्पन्नपञ्चमहापातकात्प्रमुच्यते ।
सैषां सावित्रीं विद्यां न किञ्चिदपि न
कस्मैचित्प्रशंसयेत् ।
य एतां महाभागः प्रातः पठति स भाग्यवाञ्जायते ।
पशून्विन्दति । वेदार्थं लभते ।
त्रिकालमेतज्जप्त्वा क्रतुशतफलमवाप्नोति । यो हस्तादित्ये
जपति स महामृत्युं तरति य एवं वेद ॥

इत्युपनिषत् ॥

हरिः ॐ भद्रं कर्णेभिरिति शान्तिः ॥

इति सूर्योपनिषत्समाप्ता ॥
Surya Upanishad

Om! O Devas, may we hear with our ears what is auspicious;
May we see with our eyes what is auspicious, O ye worthy of worship!
May we enjoy the term of life allotted by the Devas,
Praising them with our body and limbs steady!
May the glorious Indra bless us!
May the all-knowing Sun bless us!
May Garuda, the thunderbolt for evil, bless us!
May Brihaspati grant us well-being!
Om! Let there be Peace in me!
Let there be Peace in my environment!
Let there be Peace in the forces that act on me!

Now we shall expound Atharvangiras in relation to the sun: The seer is Brahma, metre Gayatri, Aditya the deity, 'Hamsas so'ham with Agni and Narayana is the seed, the power is hrillekha or hrim, the pin is the power in the process of unfolding the sky etc., the application is its use in repetition for winning the four human goals. The six limbs consist of the seed with six vowels added.

He indeed is a Brahmana who thus knows the golden Narayana with the blessed sun, impeller of the time-wheel, having four arms and two lotuses, showing promise of refuge and boon, mounted on the sun chariot, set in the red lotus.

Om, Earth, middle region and sky; we meditate on the adorable splendour of Savitar who may inspire our thoughts. The sun is the self of the world, moving as well as un-moving. From Surya indeed are these creatures born, the Yajna, Parjanya, food and spirit.

I bow to you Aditya; you are the agent himself, the manifest Brahman, Rudra, Vishnu, Rig-Veda etc., as well as all the chandas (Metre-Vedas).

From Aditya is born Vayu, Bhumi, water, fire, sky, directions, Devas, Vedas; the sun scorches this sphere; this sun is Brahman, the inner organ, mind, intellect, mind-stuff and Ego, Prana etc., (the five airs), the five sense organs and five motor organs, sound, touch, form, taste and smell; speech, taking (with the hands) release (of the bowels), joy.

I bow to Mitra, Bhanu, (protect me from death), to the shining one, the cause of the universe.

All creatures are born of Surya and are protected by him, dissolve in him - I am Surya himself. The divine Savitar is our eye the Parvata (spirit of the Time-periods), may be vouchsafe our eye.

We know the sun, meditate on the thousand-rayed; may the sun inspire us.

Savitar is before us as well as behind, above and below. May he grant us omnipresence and long life !

Brahman is the single syllable Om, "Ghrini' has two syllables, 'Surya' also, 'Aditya' has three. This is the mantra of eight syllables.

He who recites this everyday is a Brahmana, facing sun while reciting he is released from the fear of great diseases, his poverty perishes. He becomes free from the sins of eating forbidden food, forbidden sex-relation, conversation with fallen (men), of wrong converse.
At midday he shall recite facing the sun and he is released from the five great sins.

He should not impart this Savitri Vidya to just anyone. He who recites at dawn becomes fortunate, gets live-stock, masters Vedas; reciting during the three periods (dawn etc.,) he gets the fruit of a hundred Yagas, reciting when the sun has risen to eighteen fingers, conquers death.
This is the Upanishad.

प्रातर्नमामि तरणिं तनुवाङ्मनोभि-

यो देवदेवो भगवान् भास्करो महसां निधिः ।
गयत्रीनायको भास्वान् सवितेति प्रगीयते ॥ 1 ॥

तस्याहं कवचं दिव्यं वज्रपञ्जरकाभिधम् ।
सर्वमन्त्रमयं गुह्यं मूलविद्यारहस्यकम् ॥ 2 ॥

सर्वपापापहं देवि दुःखदारिद्र्यनाशनम् ।
महाकुष्ठहरं पुण्यं सर्वरोगनिवर्हणम् ॥ 3 ॥

सर्वशत्रुसमूहघ्नं सम्ग्रामे विजयप्रदम् ।
सर्वतेजोमयं सर्वदेवदानवपूजितम् ॥ 4 ॥

रणे राजकुले द्यूते विदादे शत्रुसङ्कटे ।
सङ्गामे च ज्वरे रोगे पातु मां सविता प्रभुः ॥ 28 ॥

ॐ ॐ ॐ उत ॐउऔम् ह स म यः सूरो‌உवतान्मां भयाद्
ह्रां ह्रीं ह्रुं हहहा हसौः हसहसौः हंसो‌உवतात् सर्वतः ।
सः सः सः सससा नृपाद्वनचराच्चौराद्रणात् सङ्कटात्
पायान्मां कुलनायको‌உपि सविता ॐ ह्रीं ह सौः सर्वदा ॥ 29 ॥

द्रां द्रीं द्रूं दधनं तथा च तरणिर्भाम्भैर्भयाद् भास्करो
रां रीं रूं रुरुरूं रविर्ज्वरभयात् कुष्ठाच्च शूलामयात् ।
अम् अम् आं विविवीं महामयभयं मां पातु मार्तण्डको
मूलव्याप्ततनुः सदावतु परं हंसः सहस्रांशुमान् ॥ 30॥
अथ फलशृतिः

इति श्रीकवचं दिव्यं वज्रपञ्जरकाभिधम् ।
सर्वदेवरहस्यं च मातृकामन्त्रवेष्टितम् ॥ 31 ॥

महारोगभयघ्नं च पापघ्नं मन्मुखोदितम् ।

लिखित्वा रविवारे तु तिष्ये वा जन्मभे प्रिये ।
अष्टगन्धेन दिव्येन सुधाक्षीरेण पार्वति ॥ 33 ॥

अर्कक्षीरेण पुण्येन भूर्जत्वचि महेश्वरि ।
कनकीकाष्ठलेखन्या कवचं भास्करोदये ॥ 34 ॥

श्वेतसूत्रेण रक्तेन श्यामेनावेष्टयेद् गुटीम् ।
सौवर्णेनाथ संवेष्ठ्य धारयेन्मूर्ध्नि वा भुजे ॥ 35 ॥

रणे रिपूञ्जयेद् देवि वादे सदसि जेष्यति ।
राजमान्यो भवेन्नित्यं सर्वतेजोमयो भवेत् ॥ 36 ॥

कण्ठस्था पुत्रदा देवि कुक्षिस्था रोगनाशिनी ।
शिरःस्था गुटिका दिव्या राकलोकवशङ्करी ॥ 37 ॥

तस्य पूजार्जितं पुण्यं जन्मकोटिषु निष्फलम् ॥ 42 ॥

शतावर्तं पठेद्वर्म सप्तम्यां रविवासरे ।
महाकुष्ठार्दितो देवि मुच्यते नात्र संशयः ॥ 43 ॥

निरोगो यः पठेद्वर्म दरिद्रो वज्रपञ्जरम् ।
लक्ष्मीवाञ्जायते देवि सद्यः सूर्यप्रसादतः ॥ 44 ॥

भक्त्या यः प्रपठेद् देवि कवचं प्रत्यहं प्रिये ।
इह लोके श्रियं भुक्त्वा देहान्ते मुक्तिमाप्नुयात् ॥ 45 ॥

इति श्रीरुद्रयामले तन्त्रे श्रीदेविरहस्ये

Trilokya Mangalam Surya Kavacham

(Armour of the Sun ,Auspiciousness to the three worlds)

Sri Surya Uvacha:-

Lord Sun told:-

1.Samba , samba Maha Baho srunu may kavacham shubham,

Trilokya mangalam nama kavacham paramadbutham.

Oh Samba , who is greatly valorous , please here from me the holy armour,

Which is auspicious to the three worlds and which is greatly wonderful.

2. Yajnathwa manthravith samyak phalam prapnothi nischitham,

Yadhruthwa cha Mahadevo Gananam adhipo bhaveth.

Using it as mantra in fire sacrifices surely it would lead to accurate results,

For Lord Shiva became the leader of the Ganas by wearing it.

3.Padanath dharanath Vishnu sarveshaam palaka sadaa,

Evam indraaya sarve sarvaisvarya mavapnuyu.

Reading and wearing it Lord Vishnu , became for all times protector of all,

And Indra got all the types of wealth .

4.Kavachasya rishir brahma Chando anushtubudhahrutha,

Sri Suryo devatha chathra sarva deva namasthutha,

To the armour the sage is Brahma, the meter is anushtup with a crooked turn,

The God addressed is the Sun God who is being saluted by all devas.

5.Yasa arogya moksheshu viniyoga prakeerthitha,

Pranavo may sira pathu , grunir may pathu phalakm.

This is being chanted to get fame, health and salvation.

Let the personification of Om protect my head,

Let the shining one protect my forehead.

6. Suryo avuyaa nayana dwandwa, Adhithya karna yugmakam,

Ashtaksharo maha manthra sarvabheeshta phala pradha.

Let Lord Sun protect both my eyes,

Let Adhithya protect both my ears,

The eight lettered manthra fulfill all my desires.

7.Hreem Bheejam may mukham pathu , Hrudayam bhuvaneswari,

Chandra bimbam vimsadadyam pathu may guhya desakam.

Let the root “Hreem” protect my mouth ,

Let The goddess of all the worlds protect my heart,

Let the moon along with his twenty assistants protect my private parts.

8.Aksharo asou Maha manthra , sarva thanthreshu gopitha,

Shivo vahni samayuktho vamakshi bindu bhooshitha,

Yekaksharo Maha Manthra Sri Suryasya prakeerthitha.

The perennial gold like great chant which is secret from all thanthras,

Is with the fire of Lord Shiva and the Dot of the Goddess with the left eye,

And that chant with one letter sings the glory of the Sun god.

9.Guhyad guhyatharo manthro Vancha Chinthamani smrutha,

Seershadhi pada paryantham sada pathu manuthama,

Let that mantra which is secret of secrets ,just by remembering which it fulfills all wishes,

And May it always protect from my head to toe , Oh greatest of Manus.

10.Ithi they kaditham divyam trishu lokeshu durlabham,

Sri pradham kanthidham nithyam Dhanarogya vivardhanam.

This which has been told is divine and is difficult to obtain in the three worlds,

And this would grant wealth , makes you shine forever and increase wealth and health.

11.Kushtadhi roga samanam, Maha vyadhi vinasanam,

Trisansandhyam ya padeth nithyam arogi balavan bhaveth.

This would cure leprosy and destroy all great diseases,

And by reading it at dawn, noon and dusk,

One would attain freedom from diseases and become strong.

12.Bahunaa kimihokthena yadyath manasi varthathe ,

Thath sarvam bhaveth thasya kavachasya cha dharanath.

He in whose heart if many desires reside ,

By wearing this armour all of them would be fulfilled.

13.Bhootha pretha pisachanchsca Yaksha Gandharva Rakshasa,

Brahma Rakshasa Vetala na drushtum api tham kshama.

Ghosts, dead souls , devils , Yakshas, Gandahrwas, Rakshasas,

Brahma Rakshasas , Vetalas cannot be seen anywhere near.

14.Dhooradeva palayanthe thasya sangeerthanad api,

Bhoorja pathre samalikhya rochanaa garu kumkumai.

15.Ravivare cha sankranthyam sapthamyam cha viseshatha,

Dharayeth Sadhaka sresta sa paro may priyo bhavedh.

If it is sung even from a distance it would protect ,

And if it is written on the leaves of birch tree ,

By the use of Saffron made of yellow pigment,

Specially On Sunday, or Month beginning, or seventh phase of moon

And if it is worn by the great devotee , he would become dear to me .

16. Tri loha madhyagam kruthwaa dharayedh Dakshine kare ,

Shikhayaam adhava kande sopi Suryo na samsaya.

If it is kept in the middle of three metals and worn on the right hand,

Or on hair or neck , he is equal to Sun without any doubt.

17.Ithi they kaditham Samba trilokyamangalabhidham,

Kavacham durlabham loke thava snehath prakasitham.

Oh Samba , that which I have told you is auspicious to the three worlds,

And is the armour which is difficult to obtain and has been told by me due to my love towards you.

18. Ajnathwa Kavacham divyam yo japeth Suryamuthamam,

Sidhirna jayathe thasya Kalp koti sathairapi.

Without knowing this divine armour , if one chants the name of the great Sun God,

He would not get any power , even if he does is it for crores of eons.

Ithi Sri Brahma Yamale , Trilokya mangalam nama ,

Soorya Kavacham sampornam.

This is the armour of the Sun called Auspiciousness to the three worlds,

Which occurs in Brahma Yamala.

Shri Surya Kavacham

Shri Surya Kavacham is in Sanskrit. It is a beautiful creation of Yadnyavalkya Rushi. It is a kavacham of God Sun or God Surya. Kavacham means it gives us a protection just like a shield to the worrier. This Kavacham is for sound and good health and prosperity. We have to recite this Kavacham with faith, concentration and devotion in mind to receive blessings from God Sun. Astrologically if Sun is badly placed or affected by Saturn; Rahu in the horoscope then this Kavacham is required to be recited daily.

1 Yadnyavalkya Rushi is telling this Kavacham to the main muni. O! Muni, Please listen this pious Surya Kavacham. This Kavacham brings us sound health, prosperity and happiness.

2 I am writing this Kavacham by remembering God Surya, who has lustrous throne on his head and who has worn crocodile shape earrings.

3 My head may be protected by Bhaskar. My forehead may be protected by Amitduthi. My eyes may be protected by Dinmani. My ears may be protected by Vasareshwara.

4 My nose may be protected by Dharmadhruni. My mouth may be protected by Vedvahana. My tongue may be protected by Manada. My throat may be protected by Survandita.

5 My shoulders may be protected by Prabhakara. My breast may be protected by Janapriya. My feet may be protected by Dwadashatma. My whole body may be protected by Sakaleshwara.

6 Yadnyavalkya Rushi is telling that whosoever writes this Kavacham on Bhurja (kind of tree) Patra (leaf) and gives is to God Surya controls all the sidhies.

7 Whosoever after taking a bath recites this kavacham with peace in mind becomes free from diseases and long lived with happiness and prosperity.

Thus here ends this Surya Kavacham created by Yadnyavalkya Rushi.

(Here is a unique prayer not to the sun but the solar system. Though Sun has been worshipped as God by many religions, possibly this is a unique prayer about the Solar system. I do not know who composed it. Though it is called an octet, actually there are eleven stanzas along with an introductory prayer.)

Nama Savithre jagdekha chakshushe,

Jagat prasoothi sthithi nasa hethave,

Traayimayaya trigunathma dharine,

Virinchi Narayana sankarathmane. 1

Salutations to the Sun God,

Who is eye that sees the entire universe,

Who is the cause of birth, upkeep and destruction of the universe,

Who is the soul of the Vedas,

And who is Vishnu, Shiva and Brahma.

Yanmandalam deepthikaram visalam,

Rathnaprabham theevramanadhi roopam,

Daridrya dukha kshaya karanam cha,

Which is the source of the light,

Which is capable of destroying all diseases,

Which is being praised by Yajur, Rik and Sama Vedas,

*Among the seven lokas, these are above the earth.

Gayanthi yascharana sidha sangha,

Yad yogino yoga jusham cha sangha,

Which is being praised by experts in Vedas,

Pantheism has been a very strong part of Hindu relegion. They gave form to the several aspects of nature and worshipped them. Of these, they recognized Sun God as the one who is the primeval cause of nature. They believed worshipping Sun God would clear off all their sins. He was the son of Sage Kasyapa and Adhithi. He rode a huge chariot driven by Aruna. The God f death Yama and the planet Saturn were his sons. This beautiful octet is a prayer addressed to the sun god.

Adhi deva Namasthubhyam,,

If one recites daily this octet on Sun God,

The sufferings of his house will vanish,

If he does not have a son will get one,

And if he is poor , he would become wealthy.

Aamisham madhu panam cha,

Ya karothi raver dhine,

Saptha janma bhaved rogi,

Janma janma dharidhratha.

The one who eats meat ,

Or drinks alchholic drinks on Sundays,

Will become sick for seven births,

And would be poor from birth to death.

Sthree thails madhu maamsani.,

Yasth yejathu raver dhine,

Na vyadhi soka dharidhryam,

Surya lokam sa gachathi.

One who forsakes on all Sundays,

Woman oil bath , meat and drinks,

Will never be sick nor sad nor poor.

And would reach the land of sun after death.

दैवतैश्च समागम्य द्रष्टुमभ्यागतो रणम् ।
उपगम्या ब्रवीद्रामम् अगस्त्यो भगवान् ऋषिः ॥ 2 ॥

राम राम महाबाहो शृणु गुह्यं सनातनम् ।
येन सर्वानरीन् वत्स समरे विजयिष्यसि ॥ 3 ॥

आदित्य हृदयं पुण्यं सर्वशत्रु विनाशनम् ।
जयावहं जपेन्नित्यम् अक्षय्यं परमं शिवम् ॥ 4 ॥

सर्वमङ्गल माङ्गल्यं सर्व पाप प्रणाशनम् ।
चिन्ताशोक प्रशमनम् आयुर्वर्धन मुत्तमम् ॥ 5 ॥

रश्मिमन्तं समुद्यन्तं देवासुर नमस्कृतम् ।
पूजयस्व विवस्वन्तं भास्करं भुवनेश्वरम् ॥ 6 ॥

सर्वदेवात्मको ह्येष तेजस्वी रश्मिभावनः ।
एष देवासुर गणान् लोकान् पाति गभस्तिभिः ॥ 7 ॥

एष ब्रह्मा च विष्णुश्च शिवः स्कन्दः प्रजापतिः ।
महेन्द्रो धनदः कालो यमः सोमो ह्यपां पतिः ॥ 8 ॥

पितरो वसवः साध्या ह्यश्विनौ मरुतो मनुः ।
वायुर्वह्निः प्रजाप्राणः ऋतुकर्ता प्रभाकरः ॥ 9 ॥

आदित्यः सविता सूर्यः खगः पूषा गभस्तिमान् ।
सुवर्णसदृशो भानुः हिरण्यरेता दिवाकरः ॥ 10 ॥

हरिदश्वः सहस्रार्चिः सप्तसप्ति-र्मरीचिमान् ।
तिमिरोन्मथनः शम्भुः त्वष्टा मार्ताण्डको‌உंशुमान् ॥ 11 ॥

हिरण्यगर्भः शिशिरः तपनो भास्करो रविः ।
अग्निगर्भो‌உदितेः पुत्रः शङ्खः शिशिरनाशनः ॥ 12 ॥

व्योमनाथ स्तमोभेदी ऋग्यजुःसाम-पारगः ।
घनावृष्टि रपां मित्रो विन्ध्यवीथी प्लवङ्गमः ॥ 13 ॥

आतपी मण्डली मृत्युः पिङ्गलः सर्वतापनः ।
कविर्विश्वो महातेजा रक्तः सर्वभवोद्भवः ॥ 14 ॥

नक्षत्र ग्रह ताराणाम् अधिपो विश्वभावनः ।
तेजसामपि तेजस्वी द्वादशात्मन्-नमो‌உस्तु ते ॥ 15 ॥

नमः पूर्वाय गिरये पश्चिमायाद्रये नमः ।
ज्योतिर्गणानां पतये दिनाधिपतये नमः ॥ 16 ॥

जयाय जयभद्राय हर्यश्वाय नमो नमः ।

नमस्तमो‌உभि निघ्नाय रुचये लोकसाक्षिणे ॥ 21 ॥

नाशयत्येष वै भूतं तदेव सृजति प्रभुः ।
पायत्येष तपत्येष वर्षत्येष गभस्तिभिः ॥ 22 ॥

एष सुप्तेषु जागर्ति भूतेषु परिनिष्ठितः ।
एष एवाग्निहोत्रं च फलं चैवाग्नि होत्रिणाम् ॥ 23 ॥

वेदाश्च क्रतवश्चैव क्रतूनां फलमेव च ।
यानि कृत्यानि लोकेषु सर्व एष रविः प्रभुः ॥ 24 ॥

फलश्रुतिः

एन मापत्सु कृच्छ्रेषु कान्तारेषु भयेषु च ।
कीर्तयन् पुरुषः कश्चिन्-नावशीदति राघव ॥ 25 ॥

पूजयस्वैन मेकाग्रो देवदेवं जगत्पतिम् ।
एतत् त्रिगुणितं जप्त्वा युद्धेषु विजयिष्यसि ॥ 26 ॥

अस्मिन् क्षणे महाबाहो रावणं त्वं वधिष्यसि ।
एवमुक्त्वा तदागस्त्यो जगाम च यथागतम् ॥ 27 ॥

एतच्छ्रुत्वा महातेजाः नष्टशोको‌உभवत्-तदा ।
धारयामास सुप्रीतो राघवः प्रयतात्मवान् ॥ 28 ॥

आदित्यं प्रेक्ष्य जप्त्वा तु परं हर्षमवाप्तवान् ।
त्रिराचम्य शुचिर्भूत्वा धनुरादाय वीर्यवान् ॥ 29 ॥

रावणं प्रेक्ष्य हृष्टात्मा युद्धाय समुपागमत् ।
सर्वयत्नेन महता वधे तस्य धृतो‌உभवत् ॥ 30 ॥

अध रविरवदन्-निरीक्ष्य रामं मुदितमनाः परमं प्रहृष्यमाणः ।
निशिचरपति सङ्क्षयं विदित्वा सुरगण मध्यगतो वचस्त्वरेति ॥ 31 ॥

Adithya Hrudayam

(The heart o the Sun God)

This prayer is possibly the greatest one addressed to the Sun and occurs in Yudha Kanda of Ramayana. Lord Rama after ceaseless battle with Ravand is not able to kill him and is perplexed.At that time the devas who have assembled in the sky advice him to ask the advice from Sage Agasthya and he does it. Sage Agasthya teaches him about this great prayer and Lord Rama subsequently was able to kill Ravana.

Asya sree adithya hrudaya sthothra maha manthasya Agasthyo bhagawan rishi, anushtup chanda, Sree Adithyathma Soorya narayano devatha= sarva jaya sidhyarthe jape viniyoga

The sage for Adithya Hrudaya stotras is Sage Agasthya, the meter is anushtup and the presiding deity is Soorya Narayana who is the heart of Adithya.

Adha dyanam:-

Jayathu jayathu soorya saptha lokaika deepam,

Kirana samitha papam klesa dukhasya nasam,

Aruna nigama gamyam chadhi adithya moorthim,

Sakala bhuvana vandhyam, bhaskaram tham namami

Now prayer:-

Victory, Oh victory to the Sun god,

Who is the lamp to the seven worlds,

Who by his rays destroys sin,

Who destroys aches and sorrow,

Who is lead to by the path of Vedas,

Who is the Sun God to the universe,

And Who is saluted by all the worlds,

And also my salutations to Him who makes the day.

Thatho yudha parisrantham samare chinthaya sthitham,

Ravanam chagratho drushtwa yudhaya samupasthitham.

Daivathischa samagamya drushtu mabhya gatho ranam,

Upagamyabraveed ramam Agasthyo Bhagawan rishi.

The great God like sage Agasthya,

Who has come along with other Gods to see the war,

Seeing the tired and thought filled Ravana,

Approached Lord Rama , who is ready for the war and told.

Rama rama maha baho srunu guhyam sanathanam,

Yena sarvaanareen vatsa samare vijayishyasi.

Hey rama, Hey dear Rama, , be pleased to hear,

That which is secret and perennial,

By reciting which , son,

You would be victorious in war.

Adithya hrudayam punyam, sarva sathru vinasanam,

Jayavaham japen nithyam akshayyam paramam shubham.

This is the prayer called “the heart of the sun”.

Which is holy , destroys all enemies,

Which leads to victory,

And by reciting which daily,

Leads you to perennial state of good.

Sarva mangala mangalyam, sarva papa pranasanam,

Chinthasoka prasamanam, ayur vardhanamuthamam.

This prayer great gives all that is good,

Destroys all sins committed,

Acts as an antidote for sorrow and thought,

And also leads to very long life.

Rasmi mantham samudhyantham devasura namaskrutham,

Poojayaswa vivaswantham bhaskaram bhuvaneshwaram.

Offer prayers to the Great Sun God,

Who is the owner of rays,

Who rises up from below,

Who is worshipped by devas and asuras,

And who is worshipped by every one of the universe.

Sarva devathmako hyesha tejaswai rasmi bhavana,

Esha devasura ganan lokan pathi gabasthibhi.

He has within him all the devas,

He is the brightest among the bright,

He runs the whole world by his rays,

And protects all the worlds of Devas and Asuras,

By his great Rays.

Esha brahma cha Vishnuscha shiva skanda prajapathi,

Mahendro, dhandha kalo yama somo hyapam pathi.

He is Brhama, He is Vishnu,

He is Shiva, He is Skanda,

He is the progenitor of human race,

He is the king of devas,

He is Kubhera, the lord of all riches.

He is Kala, the God of death,

And He is the moon also He is Varuna

Pitharo vasava sadhya hyaswinou marutho, manu,

Vayur vahni praja prana ruthu hartha prabhakara.

He is the manes, He is the Gods called Vasus,

He is the gods called sadhya,

He is the Aswini devathas, the doctors of Gods,

He is the maruths who are responsible for breeze,

He is the wind God, He is the fire God,

He is the soul of all beings,

He is the creator of seasons,

And he is the giver of light.

Adithya savitha soorya khaga poosha gabasthiman,

Suvarna sadrusa bhanu , hiranya retha divakara.

He is the son of Adithi,

He is the creator of the world,

He makes us do things,

He travels on the sky,

He feeds the world by rain,

He is the one with rays,

He is the colour of Gold,

He is always shining,

He is responsible for creation,

And he is the maker of the day.

Haridaswa sahasrarchi saptha sapthir mareechiman,

Thimironmadhana shambhu thwashtwa marthanda amsuman.

He has green horses,

He has thousands of rays,

He rides on seven horses,

He dispels darkness,

He gives a pleasant life,

He kills all life,

He gives rebirth to those killed,

He removes darkness,

And he is resplendent in his glory.

Hiranya garbha shisira thapano bhaskaro ravi,

Agni garbha adithe puthra sanka shisira nasana.

He who keeps the golden source,

He who cools down minds of devotees,

He who bestows heat,

He who is the source of light,

He who is praised by every one,

He who has fire within himself,

He who is the son of adhithi,

He who travels in the sky with pleasure,

And he who melts cold.

Vyomanadha sthamobhedi rig yajur sama paraga,

Ghana vrushtirapam mithro vindhya veedhi plavangama.

He who is the lord of the sky,

He who dispels darkness,

He who is a master of Rig, Yajur and Sama veda,

He who is the cause of heavy rains,

He who is the friend of water,

And he who travels over the Vindhyas swiftly.

Aathapee mandali mruthyu pingala sarva thapana,

Kavir viswo maha thejaa raktha sarvodbhava.

He who gives heat,

He who is of the global shape,

He who is of the form of death,

He who is of the colour of gold,

He who heats everything,

He who is in expert in knowledge,

He who manages the universe,

He who is of great brilliance,

He who is dear to every one,

And he who manages every event.

Nakshtra gruha tharanam adhipo , viswa bhaavana,

Thejasam aphi thejaswi dwadasathman namosththe.

Salutations to him who is the Lord of stars, planets and zodiac,

To him who looks after the universe,

To him who gives light to all that shines,

And To him who has twelve forms.

Nama poorvaya giraye, paschimayadraye nama,

Jyothirgananam pathaye dhinadhipathaye nama.

Salutations to him who rises from the mounts of east,

Salutations to him who sets on mounts of west,

Salutations to the lord of objects that shine,

And the Lord of the day.

Jayaya jaya bhadraya haryaswaya namo nama,

Namo nama sahasramso adithyaya namo nama.

Salutations to him who is the cause of victories,

Salutations to him who has green horses,

Salutations and salutations to him who has thousand rays,

Salutations and salutations to the son of Adhithi.

Nama ugraya veeraya sarangaya namo nama,

Nama padma prabhodaya , marthandaya namo nama.

Salutations and salutations,

To him who is fearful to the sinners,

To him who is the hero,

And to him who travels swiftly.

Salutations to him who opens the lotus,

And salutations and salutations,

To him who makes men live.

Brhamesanachuthesaya sooryadhithya varchase,

Bhaswathe sarva bhakshaya roudraya vapushe nama

Salutations to Him,

Who is God to Brahma, Achyutha and Shiva,

Who is the giver of light,

Who is the son of Adhithi,

Who is ever shining,

Who eats everything,

And to him who has a fearsome body,

Thmognaya himagnaya sathrugnaya amithathmane,

Kruthagnagnaya devaya jyothisham pathaye nama.

Salutations to him,

Who destroys darkness,

Who destroys, snow,

Who destroys his enemies,

Who has an immeasurable body,

Who destroys those who are not grateful,

And to him who is the Lord of those who shine.

Taptha chamikarabhaya vahnaye viswa karmane,

Namasthomabhinignaya ruchaye loka sakshine.

Salutations to Him,

Who is of the colour of molten gold,

Who is of the form of fire,

Who has created the world,

Who destroys ignorance,

Who is the subject of all that is loved,

And to him who is the witness of the world.

Naasa yatyesha vai bhootham tadeva srujathi prabha,

Payathyesha thapathyesha varshatyesha gabhasthibhi.

This our lord helps beings to grow,

And also destroys them.

He with his awesome rays,

Looks after every being,

Gives intense heat to them,

And also causes rains to shower

Yesha suptheshu jagarthi bhootheshu parinishtitha,

Yesha evagnihothram cha phalam chaivagnihothrinam.

This our Lord is awake,

When all the world is asleep,

Without anyone being aware,

And he is the fire sacrifice,

And also the one who performs fire sacrifice.

Vedascha kradavaschaiva krathoonam phalameva cha,

Yani kruthyani lokeshu sarva yesha ravi prabhu.

All the Vedas,

All the yagas,

Result of all yagas.

And all the actions,

That happen in this world,

Are this Lord Surya himself.

Yena mapathsu kruchreshu kanthareshu bhayeshu cha,

Keerthayan Purusha kaschin aavaseedhathi raghava.

Hey Lord Raghava,

Any one who sings the praise of the Sun,

In time of danger,

In time of suffering,

In wild forests.

And in times of fear,

Is able to cross the problem for sure.

Poojaswaikegro deva devam jagat pathim,

Ethath trigunitham japthwa yudeshu vijayishyasi.

Please worship Him.

Who is God of Gods,

And who is the lord of the universe,

With single minded devotion.

If you chant this thrice,

You would win in the war.

Asmin kshane maha baaho ravanam thwam vadhishyasi,

Evamukthwaa agasthyo jagam yada gatham.

“Oh hero of heroes,

You would kill Ravana within a second,”

Saying this the sage Agasthya,

Went back his way.

Edath sruthwa maha theja nashta shoka abhavath thada,

Dharayamasa supreetho raghava prayathathmavaan.

Hearing this, the resplendent one,

Became devoid of sorrow,

And with utmost devotion,

Wore this prayer within himself.

Adhithya prekshya japthwa thu param harsha mavapthavan,

Thrirachamya suchir bhoothwa dhanuradhaaya veeryavaan.

Cleansing himself,

By doing Aachamana[1] thrice,

And facing the Sun God,

Lifting his bow

The great hero Rama became very happy

Ravanam preshya hrushtathma yudhaya samupagamath,

Sarva yathnena mahatha vadhe thasya drutho bhavath.

Came he facing Ravana,

For starting the war again,

With all preparations great,

With an intention of killing him.

Adharavira vadha nireekshya ramam,

Mudhithamana paramam prahrushyamana,

Nisicharapathi samkshyam vidhithwa,

Sura gana Madhya gatho vachasthwarethi.

Immediately then Lord Sun,

Who is the king of the skies

Arose from the middle of the bevy of Gods,

With mind full of happiness,

And asked Rama to kill Ravana forthwith.

Sooryam sundara loka nadham amrutham vedantha saram shivam,

Gnanam brahma mayam suresha mamalam lokaika chitham swayam.

I bow and salute always before the great Sun God,

Who is ever shining,

Who is the Lord of the universe,

Who is forever living,

Who is the essence of Veda,

Who is forever peaceful,

Who is store house of knowledge,

Who is God personified,

Who is the king of gods,

Who is purity personified,

And who has the mind of all the world under his control.

Bhano bhaskara marthanda, chanda rasmai, divakara,

Ayur arogyam aiswaryam vidhyam dehi namosthuthe.

Oh God of gods,

Who is source of light,

Who makes the day,

Who removes darkness,

Who has fearful rays,

And who is the creator of the morn,

Please give me long life,

Health, wealth, knowledge

And I salute you.

Anyadha saranam nasthi thwameva saranam mama,

Thasmath karunya bhavena raksha raksha maha prabho.

I don’t have anybody to seek refuge,

Except thee , Oh great God,

So please have mercy upon me,

And protect me again and again.

Ithi srimad Valmeekhi Ramayane Yudha Kande,

Sapthothara sathathama sargathmakam,

Adhithya hrudaya sthothram samaptham,

Thus ends the great prayer called Adithya Hrudhayam,

Which occurs in the 107^th chapter of the section of war,
