MESSAGE FOR CONTEMPLATIOON 1158
Radhe krishna,
Have a blessed day,
SAMA' AND 'DAMA'
Swami SivanandaSama indirectly means the practice of the eradication of desires. It is serenity or tranquility of mind that is brought about by the annihilation of desires. According to Tattva Bodha, Sama is the control of the 'inner' organs, i.e., the organs of know ledge or the five Jnana Indriyas, vie:., ear, skin, eye, tongue and nose, and Dama is the control of the 'external' organs, i.e., the organs of action or the five Karma Indriyas, viz., speech, hands, feet, and the reproductive and the excretary organs
Sadhana is at first mechanical and it is only in the later stages that it becomes a part and parcel of ones own life. It appears as a drudgery in the beginning, but later on it imparts joy, peace, strength, courage and freedom.
