SPIRIT OF SERVICE
Swami SivanandaA living God is in the form of a sick patient who is in a dying state. They have not got the heart to go and serve him or even to speak a few kind and encouraging words to him, when his life is ebbing away. How can they expect to have the vision of the all-merciful Lord when they have hearts made of flint? How can they hope to find God? How can they have God-realization when they have not got eyes to see God in all beings and the spirit of service to serve Him in all these forms? That man who has knowledge and devotion can alone do really efficient service to country and the people. Knowledge and devotion must be the rock-bottom basis of selfless service. Knowledge can be combined with selfless service, or devotion can be combined with selfless service, with much advantage.
Do total surrender to the Lord. Keep back nothing, not even a little pride. Surrender yourself and your all unreservedly to the Lord. - Swami Sivananda Side by side with study of religious books and scriptures there should be daily Satsang at home. Set aside a part of the evening when all the family members can gather together, sing the Name of the Lord and commune with Him.
