ANALYSIS OF GUNAS
Swami SivanandaWhen Tamas increases, darkness, a desire to do nothing, forgetfulness of one's duties, callousness, hatred, wicked tendencies and confusion arise. Imfatuation or Moha is a product of Tamas. Just as a dark cloud enshrouds the sun, so also Tamas or darkness envelops knowledge or the light of the Atma. Tamas is an enemy of any kind of progress. A Sattwic man controls the senses, does selfless service and practises Japa, Pranayama, Asanas, meditation, self-analysis and enquiry of "Who am I? It is only through selfless activities, unattached work and loving service that one can acquire the precious gems of purity, patience and humility.
