 MESSAGE FOR CONTEMPLATION 1208

Radhe krishna.
Have a blessed dday,

ASANAS FOR MEDITATION

Swami Sivananda
When you sit for meditation in the Asan, close your eyes and gently concentrate on Trikuti (the space between the two eyebrows). Tip of the nose, and Anahata Chakra (the lotus of the heart) are other places for concentration. Padmasan is one of the most important poses. When this is demonstrated, it gives the appearance of a lotus. In Sanskrit Padma means lotus. The two feet on the opposite thighs represent the petals of a lotus. Amongst the four poses prescribed for meditation, Padmasan comes foremost. ,
Even one little thought of God, even one single utterance of His sacred name, even for few seconds of visualizing His form immediately goes into your credit in the eternal bank.

 MESSAGE FOR CONTEMPLATION 1207

Radhe krishna.
Have a blessed day,

ASANAS FOR MEDITATION

Swami Sivananda
Asans can be divided into two broad divisions, viz., meditative poses and poses for health and strength. According to Yoga Shastras there are four excellent meditative poses: Padmasan, Siddhasan, Swastikasan and Sukhasan. Without securing a steady Asan, you cannot get on well in meditation. The more steady you are in your Asan, the more you will be able to concentrate and make your mind one-pointed. Select any one of the four that is suitable to you and sit for fifteen minutes and gradually increase the period to three hours. When you sit in the Asan, keep the head, neck and trunk in one straight line. Do not bend the back.

Meditation builds up your personality and character, cleanses your thoughts, purifies your emotions and allows the seed of spirit to grow.

- Swami Sivananda
I can do nothing, without the grace of God. Thou art everything. I am Thine, All is Thine.Have holy aspiration. Grow in purity. Meditate seriously. Entertain lofty, divine thoughts.
You will have Divine Life

ASANAS FOR MEDITATION

Swami Sivananda

Yogic Culture is divided into eight Angas (limbs or steps), viz., Yama, Niyama, Asan, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana and Samadhi. Yama is the practice of Ahimsa (non-killing or non-injuring), Satya (truthfulness), Asteya (non-stealing), Brahmacharya (celibacy), Aparigraha (abstinence from greed). Niyama is the practice of Saucha (internal and external purity), Santosh (contentment), Tapas (mortification), Swadhyaya (study of scriptures), Ishwarapranidhana (self-surrender). Asan is the third stage. If you want to enjoy the full spiritual benefits of Asans, you must first practise well the first two steps, Yama and Niyama.

Love God fully and intenselwith all your heart, with all your mind with all your soul. You wiil be fully absorbed by Him.
Swami Chidananda

When true knowledge arises, we are happy. When true knowledge arises, we give fearlessness to all; and when true knowledge arises, we, too, are fearless, and no one can frighten us.

 MESSAGE FOR CONTEMPLATION 1205

Radhe krishna..
have a blesssed day,

OBSTACLES AND GENERAL HINTS

Swami Sivananda
Too much physical exertion, too much talking, too much eating, too much mixing with worldly persons, too much walking, too much sexual indulgence, too many desires, are all obstacles to concentration. Do not concentrate when the mind is tired. Do not wrestle with the mind when you concentrate. When irrelevant thoughts enter the mind, be indifferent. They will pass away. Do not drive them forcibly. They will persist and resist. It will tax your will. They will enter with redoubled force. But substitute divine thoughts. Evil thoughts will gradually fade out. Be slow and steady in the practice of concentration. Apply Brahmi-Amla oil to the head if there is much heat. Take butter and sugarcandy. This will cool the system. If you want to succeed in any walk of life, you must develop concentration. It is a source of spiritual strength. It is the master-key for opening the chamber of knowledge.

Even one little thought of God, even one single utterance of His sacred name, even for few seconds of visualizing His form immediately goes into your credit in the eternal bank.
