The immediate preliminaries to knowledge of Brahman are self-control, serenity, withdrawal into oneself, endurance, concentration, discrimination and deep meditation. It is not given to all to know the mysteries of Brahman or the Absolute. Only the blessed few succeed. Brahman is known by truthfulness, self-sacrifice, abstinence, enquiry and meditation. The Supreme Being is not attained by the unintelligent, dull, lazy, lustful person. Brahman is attained by that hero who has steadied his mind, removed all impurities of his heart and acquired spiritual wisdom. That blessed person, meditating on the taintless principle, "I am the immortal, all-pervading, eternal Atma, " crosses the ocean of Samsara. 

If you try to be good, then doing good spontaneously becomes possible for you.
