All restlessness and fighting between one community and another, one man and another, one nation and another, are due to this hatred and jealousy. The heart of a man of jealousy burns actually when he sees his neighbour in a more prosperous condition. The same is the case with communities and nations. Develop the quality of nobility and magnanimity and remove jealousy. Pride should be removed by developing humility. Hypocrisy should be destroyed by developing frankness and simplicity, anger by developing forgiveness, love and the spirit of service.

Fill each day with kind words, good deeds, selfless activities, service unto others, activities that bring joy into the lives of those amongst whom God has put you.

This world is full of hatred. There is no real love. The son dislikes his father and vice versa. The wife poisons her husband to marry another young man of wealth and position. Brothers fight in law courts. All students should be trained in the service of humanity, and thus acquire the spirit of selflessness. The necessity of universal love should be very clearly emphasized. Then alone there can be a possibility of developing pure love and eradicating hatred. You should sincerely and earnestly try to remove hatred. Conquer hatred, jealousy and intolerance by developing love.

The life of an aspirant is one long series of renunciation and daily sacrifice. He lives to serve others and make all happy.

"FEAR" Swami Sivananda Fear makes the face pale and the eyes express a peculiar ghastly, listless look. Parents and teachers should infuse the spirit of courage in their sons and students from the very boyhood. They should ask them to read stories from ancient scriptures which deal with the chivalrous acts of great warriors. Boys have got pliable and elastic minds. They can be manipulated well at this period of life. Celibacy gives tremendous strength and infuses courage to some extent, A NEW BEGINNING WORSHIPFUL Spiritual Presence! Beloved Gurudev! We bow to thee at this moment of early dawn! And by your infinite love and compassion and grace towards all, you have drawn us together in this hour of early morning spiritual fellowship in thy presence, to cleanse ourselves, to purify ourselves, to sanctify and to transform ourselves, to uplift our spirits and inspire and elevate our entire being to enter into this gift of the new day that thou hast given to us, to make it a further step towards that ideal of perfection which the ancient sages and seers of Vedic India have placed before all humankind, before the global human family, as the supreme ultimate goal of life. That goal is to become perfect, eternally free, fearless. That goal is to attain the Bhuma or the completeness or the Plenum of Plutonius. That goal is to reach the Paripurna Avastha, the fullness, the Paripurnata that Brahman has been known to be. May this day become one more step, a step further, a step higher towards that great and glorious destiny of divine perfection that is eternal, inalienable, pristine, shorn of all imperfection, devoid of all weaknesses, defects and drawbacks. We thank thee, Gurudev, with the fullness of a grateful heart for this daily opportunity, this daily occasion to thus start the day on the right note, to thus commence this lap of twenty-four hours of our journey towards immortality with the right foot, so that everything in this day becomes suffused and infilled by the divine quality that is our essential nature, so that our life becomes truly an expression of our inward Reality, so that our life becomes truly dynamic, an active manifestation through thought, word and action of our inner truth, of the eternal fact of our godliness. The king is afraid of the enemy. The pundit is afraid of his opponent. A beautiful lady is afraid of her old age. A lawyer is afraid of the judge and his opponent. The student is afraid of the teacher. The frog is afraid of the snake. The cobra is afraid of the mongoose. There are various degrees of fear. These are simple fright, timidity, shyness, alarm, terror and terrible fear. When there is terrible fear, the whole body perspires, knees shake, the whole body shivers, the mind becomes like a log of wood. Sometimes shock and immediate collapse take place and the man dies of sudden cardiac failure.

The more you develop divine qualities and become God-like in nature, the nearer you will draw to Divinity.

Fear, worry and anger deplete all energy of man and bring exhaustion and early death. No one is absolutely free from fear. Fear assumes various forms. The Gurkha is not afraid of knife or bullet, but he is afraid of a scorpion. A hunter is not afraid of a tiger in the forest but is afraid of the surgeon's knife. The Pathan is not afraid of knife, but he is terribly afraid of snakes. Some are afraid of ghosts. The vast majority of persons are afraid of public criticism. Some are afraid of diseases. Even the most healthy and strong man has got some imaginary fear of disease. 

This whole world is a play of ego. Ego, sex and world are inseparable. If you understand the nature of ego, you have understood the whole mystery of creation. Therefore, scrutinise. Study of ego is imperatively necessary. It will help you in the attainment of Eternal Bliss or the Ultimate Reality.

‘Work without the idea of agency, without any motive, and as offerings unto the Lord.’ That
is, every action of yours in whatever sphere of life you may be, you have to transform with this
touchstone. Let Karma become Bhajan. This mental Bhavana at once transforms even the most
prosaic act into a direct worship of God. There are three points which I should like to mention.
Transformation of ordinary action into divine Bhajan. Before you begin any action, imagine and try
to feel that what you are about to do is a grand Bhajan of the Lord, a grand worship of the Lord who
is manifest in His Virat Svarupa in everything you hear, in everything you see, in everything you
touch. Then you begin the work. As you go on doing the work, every now and then try to feel that
this work is not being done by you. You are a mere instrument and it is the Omnipresent power of
the Lord that is working through you. Completely negate the idea of agency and doership. Try to
feel that the Sakti of the Lord is working through you. With this feeling you carry on the work to its
logical conclusion. The third point you have to note is that when you have finished the Karma, do so
as an offering to Lord. Let your last action be a whole-hearted Arpanam—Krishnarpanam. When
you start, feel that you are doing it as a mere instrument of the Lord and let the day close with the
Krishnarpanam of the whole day’s work. Thus everything will become a worship of the Lord and
every action will be transformed into divine worship through your putting the emphasis upon
Bhavana. So, Bhava is the one basis to which man has to cling in the present age. He has no escape
from the necessity of work. Materialistic life forces him to work for his livelihood. Thus, in
whatever circumstances he is placed, let him see that he generates this Bhava through repeated
imagination and makes his Bhava a permanent portion of his Being. Thus his whole life will
become a continuous worship of the Lord. By shifting thus the emphasis from the physical to
mental, he is living the life of incessant Sadhana in any circumstance where God has placed him. In
an incredibly short time he will see that the whole world stands transformed before him. He will
begin to feel the Lord constantly and he will feel the presence of the Lord everywhere

DIFFIDENCE Swami Sivananda Many people are always diffident. They have no self-confidence. They have energy, capacity and faculty. But they have no confidence in their own powers and faculties, and in getting success. This is a kind of weakness that brings failures in all attempts. A man appears on the pulpit to deliver a lecture. He is well-read. But he is diffident. He thinks foolishly that he would not be able to make an impressive speech. The moment this kind of negative thought comes to his mind, he becomes nervous, he staggers and gets down the platform. You may have a little capacity and yet you must have full confidence that you will succeed in your venture. There are people who have very little material and capacity for public speaking, and yet they can thrill the audience by sheer self-confidence. Confidence is a kind of power. It develops will. Confidence is half success. A man of confidence is always successful. “Feel all along that the body is a moving temple of God, your office or business-house a big temple or Vrindavana, and every activity such as walking, eating, breathing, seeing, hearing, reading, etc., are offerings unto the Lord.” This is the second mental action. You can first have Sattvic imagination, Kalpana, and secondly you can cultivate Sattvic Bhava. Bhavana and Kalpana are the two things which you have to culture, and once Kalpana through constant repetition becomes a settled Bhavana, then you will find that your whole Sadhana will move along without a hitch Swami Chidananda. Stilling the mind does not mean allowing the mind to sleep. COWARDICE

Cowardice is want of courage. It is timidity. A coward is a faint-hearted person. He is afraid of danger. He fawns upon those who are above him. He falters. He yields to fear. He dreads pain or harm, unduly. A coward is a poltroon. He is a pusillanimous man. He is dastardly. A coward dies many times before his death. A coward can never attain God-realization. Cowardice is a deadly sin. Cowardice is loss of virtue. A lie is contemptible, chiefly because it is cowardly.

Human birth is an opportunity given to you by the Supreme Being to meditate and realize Him.
