THREE TENDENCIES
Swami SivanandaA Knowledge of the Gunas and their operations is indispensable. Then alone you can free yourself from their clutches. Bondage and freedom are states of Prakriti only. Light is the quality of Sattwa, activity of Rajas, and delusion of Tamas. Tamas and Rajas pull man downwards. Sattwa lifts him upwards. Tamas and Rajas lead to bondage. Sattwa helps to attain Salvation. Tamas is a great stumbling block to spiritual progress and success in any walk of life. People mistake Tamas for Sattva or Saati. They take a Tamasic man for a silent Yogi.
If you offer yourself to the Lord, He looks to it that He offers Himself to you. He will liberate you forever by the offering of Himself.
