MESSAGE FOR CONTEMPLATION 1140

In Brahman or the Absolute there exists no distinction between substance and attributes. In the Absolute there is neither past, nor present, nor future; there is neither here, nor there, nor up and down. It is the mind that creates time and space. Being (Sat), Knowledge (Chit) and Bliss (Anand) are not attributes of Brahman. They are its essence. Brahman is unconditioned and unborn. From whom all these visible things emanated, by whom they live, and in whom they disappear and enter? That is Brahman or the Supreme Being. Life here is impossible without Him. Brahman is the sum of all perfection. Brahman is absolute existence, wisdom, and infinite self-luminous consciousness. 

 Overcome anger by love, evil by good, greed by liberality, fear by courage, falsehood by truth, pride by humility, infatuation by enquiry, harshness by gentleness and sweetness, immorality by morality, and worldliness by divinity.

Gurudev once cautioned a group of aspirants to be alive to the stealthy power of
unconscious habits. “For,” he said, “Man is sybarite by nature. You may be very zealous in your
austerity and vows in the beginning. But if you are not on the guard, slowly will the vigour be
relaxed; comforts will creep in and you will be caught hopelessly. If the body is allowed to relapse
into softness and luxury, you will find it well nigh impossible to discipline it again.”
