MEMORY CULTURE Swami Sivananda Interest and attention develop memory. A doctor has got good memory in the remembrance of drugs in the Metaria Medica because he has a keen interest in learning the treatment of diseases. One cannot remember even a few items in this book if one has no interest in the subject. Everything depends on interest and attention. It is very unwise to blame someone for not having a good memory without looking into his field of interest. You will have to create interest first in a certain subject, and the memory of things will automatically come. One should have a perfect knowledge of his subject and should have a general knowledge of all important subjects. A versatile or all-round nature is highly laudable. Try to become a versatile genius. A strong and retentive memory, a powerful will and the practice of daily concentration and meditation, will certainly give you success. A strong man will have a gppd memory. Slay ignorance. Trust not thy senses, as they are false. Look inward. Gaze within. Meditate on the Imperishable Atman. Thou art Brahman. Tat Twam Asi. - Swami Sivananda Be still. Be in tune with the Divine Will. Let go all worries. Cast out all cares and anxieties. Get deep down into the innermost core of your heart and plunge into the ocean of peace. The ancient system of education had its own advantages. It developed memory to a marvellous extent Celibacy, dietetic adjustment and discipline of the senses are very essential for developing memory. The seminal energy has a direct, intimate connection with the cells of the sub-conscious mind and brain. Bad memory is due largely to heavy loss of seminal energy. Young school and college students do not realize the vital importance of celibacy. They grope in utter darkness. Their minds are filled with lustful thoughts. They indulge in such type of novel-reading that excites passion. They eat whatever they like. They have no idea of pure diet and the effects of unwholesome food on the different compartments of the brain. Hence they fail in their lives and lead a cheerless, gloomy life, in darkness and despair. 

Pray to God daily. Read spiritual books. Books are the source of great inspiration. Read only
good books which convey only positive thoughts. Feel the presence of God wherever you go. You

are in Him and He is in you. Remember this.
