PRAYER-A MEANS FOR GOD-COMMUNION

Prayer must become habitual. If prayer becomes a habit with you, you will feel as if you cannot live without it. Prayer can move mountains. Prayer can work miracles. Pray even once from the bottom of your heart. Have a meek, receptive attitude of mind, for the egoistic man can never really pray. Cultivate intense feeling in your heart. The prayer is at once heard and responded. Do this in the daily battle of life and realize for yourself the high efficacy of prayer. You must have a strong conviction in the existence of God. 

Let the fountain of universal love spring up in our hearts. In it there is everlasting joy. The
true vision is eternal and universal. It is beyond the limits of all creeds, sects, dogmas, customs and

religions.

Do not argue about the efficacy of prayer. You will be deluded. There is no arguing in spiritual matters. When you pray, you are in tune with the Infinite. You link yourself with the inexhaustible cosmic powerhouse of energy, and thus draw power, energy, light and strength from God. Prayer does not demand high intelligence or eloquence. God wants your heart when you pray. Even a few words from a humble, pure soul, though illiterate, will appeal to the Lord more than the eloquent, flowing words of an orator or a pundit. Even when the medical board has pronounced a case to be hopeless, prayer comes to rescue and the patient is miraculously cured. There have been many instances of this type. You may be aware of this. 

The purpose of life is not running after material riches and worldly glories, though they have their relevancies to a limited extent, depending on the make-up of the individual, but to cultivate the spirit of service, love, compassion, understanding and fellowship.

Prayer is the effort of man to commune with the Lord. Prayer is a mighty spiritual force. It is as real as the force of gravity or attraction. Prayer elevates the mind. It fills the mind with purity. It is associated with devotion to God. It keeps the mind in tune with God. Prayer can reach a realm where reason dares not enter; it can take you to the spiritual realm or the kingdom of God. Prayer frees the devotee from all kinds of fears. It brings him nearer to God and makes him feel his essential, immortal and blissful nature. The power of prayer is inestimable. Its glory is ineffable. Sincere devotees only realize its usefulness and splendour. Pray with reverence and faith and with a heart filled with devotion. 

Love

 Divine is the Supreme gift, the greatest force in the world. The grace of God is

obtained by true devotion. Devotion is the means to attain Bliss Infinite. The highest form of
devotion is to offer everything as a sacrifice to God—your thoughts, actions, desires and

everything. If you do this you will attain intuitive vision of identity with Him

A combined method should be adopted in its eradication. Do not identify yourself with the modification of anger. When a wave of anger rises in the mind lake, stand as a witness of the modification. Become indifferent. Then this modification will die away by itself. It will not disturb you. Eradicate anger. Manifest inner spiritual strength. Realize the Self which is Knowledge Absolute, Existence Absolute, Bliss Absolute. Glory unto those who have rooted out their anger and attained the knowledge of the Self.

It is a great folly not to realize the supreme goal in our life and waste away this precious gift of God, this human status in merely running after passing perishable things.

Too much loss of semen is the chief cause of irritability and anger. Passion is the root and anger the stem. You will have to destroy the root (passion) first. Then the stem (anger) will die by itself. A celibate who has preserved semen always keeps a balanced mind. He has a cool brain at all times. An aspirant should direct all his attention towards the conquest of this powerful enemy. Pure and light food, repetition of the Lord's name, regular meditation, prayer, company of the wise, selfless service, discrimination, dispassion, practice of control of breath and celibacy,—are some of the potent factors that pave a long way in eradicating this dire malady, anger.

All problems, as far as you are individually concerned, are self-wrought. If you are resolved within, then external problems lose their magnitude.

If a man becomes irritable for trifling things very often, it is a definite sign of mental weakness. An easily irritable man is always unjust. He is swayed by impulses and emotions. Anger gains strength by repetitions. If it is checked then and there, man gains strength of will. When anger is controlled it becomes transmuted into spiritual energy with tremendous potentiality. Energy is wasted enormously when one gets angry. The whole nervous system is shattered by an outburst of anger. No one can check an angry man. He gets enormous strength for the time being and gets collapsed after sometime on account of reaction. Various types of poisonous currents are charged into the nervous and circulatory systems when one is angry. It takes days for restoration of normal equilibrium in the nervous system.

Hot words result in fighting and stabbing. The angry man is under intoxication. He completely loses his balance for the time being. Irritation, frowning resentment, indignation, rage, fury, wrath, ,—are all varieties of anger, according to the degree of its intensity. If a man wants to correct and educate another man and manifest slight anger unselfishly, as a means to check and improve him, then it is called 'righteous anger' or 'noble rage.' This is not bad. But the motive and the manner are important. When anger is an outcome of greed or selfish motives, it is bad. Sometimes a religious teacher has to manifest a little anger outwardly to correct his disciples. This is not bad. He has to do it. But he should be cool within. 

If you always wish for the welfare of others, for the prosperity of others, you automatically draw to yourself prosperity.

ANGER Swami Sivananda Anger is a modification that arises in the mind-lake when passion and inertia predominate. It is a wave of unpleasant feeling that arises from within when one gets displeased with another. It is, in other words, a modification of desire or passion. Just as milk is changed into curd, so also desire or passion becomes changed into anger. It is a most formidable enemy of peace, knowledge and devotion. Anger resides in the astral body but it percolates into the physical body just as water percolates through the pores to the outer surface of an earthen pot. Just as heat melts lead, just as heat and borax melt gold, so also passion and anger, the two main qualities of the mind, melt its shape. Ever feel the presence of God. Know that God is merciful and kind. There is no end to His mercy. He is Kama Dhenu. Whatever you ask, He will give you. Have intense faith in Him. Acquire this faith by regular prayer and worship. Have fixed hours for prayer and Japa. Even during office hours feel that you are doing His worship Swami Chidananda Knowing Brahman is being Brahman. Knowing Reality is being Reality.
