SHRI VEDAVYASASHTAKAM(Guru stotra.15)
श्री वेदव्यासाष्टकम्
कलिमलास्तविवेकदिवाकरं
समवलोक्य तमोवलितं जनम्।
करुणया भुवि दर्शितविग्रहं
मुनिवरं तमहं सततं भजे॥१॥
भरतवंशसमुद्धरणेच्छया
स्वजननीवचसा परिनोदितः।
अजनयत्तनयत्रितयं
प्रभु-
र्मुनिवरं तमहं सततं भजे॥२॥
मतिबलादि निरीक्ष्य कलौ नृणां
लघुतरं कृपया निगमांबुधेः।
समकरोदिह भागमनेकधा
मुनिवरं तमहं सततं भजे॥३॥
सकलधर्मनिरूपणसागरं
विविधचित्रकथासमलंकृतम्।
व्यरचयच्च पुराणकदंबकं
मुनिवरं तमहं सततं भजे॥४॥
श्रुतिविरोधसमन्वयदर्पणं
निखिलवादिमतान्ध्यविदारणम्।
ग्रथितवानपि सूत्रसमूहकं
मुनिवरं तमहं सततं भजे॥५॥
यदनुभाववशेन दिवंगतः
समधिगम्य महास्त्रसमुच्चयम्।
कुरुचमूमजयद्विजयो द्रुतम्
मुनिवरं तमहं सततं भजे॥६॥
समरवृत्तबोधसमीह्ययां
कुरुवरेण मुदा कृतयाचनः।
सपदि सूतमदादमलेक्षणं
मुनिवरं तमहं सततं भजे॥७॥
वननिवासपरौ कुरुदंपती
सुतशुचा तपसा च विकर्शितौ।
मृततनूजगणं समदर्शयन्
मुनिवरं तमहं सततं भजे॥८॥
व्यासाष्टकमिदं पुण्यं
ब्रह्मानन्देन कीर्तितम्
यः पठेन्मनुजो नित्यं
स भवेच्छास्त्रपारगः ॥९॥
I worship Vyasa who incarnated to remove
Ignorance and restore the declining power
Of discrimination, in the people of Kaliyuga,
As the sun rises to drive away the darkness.
Respectful of the words of his mother,
Anxious to continue the lineage of the
Bharata race, Vyasa fathered three sons
For the dynasty which faced extinction.
Having regard to the intellectual decay
Of the people of Kaliyuga, the sage
Performed the huge task of dividing
And classifying the Vedas for them.
He authored all the Puranas, extensive
Like the oceans, which dealt with all
Dharmas, embellishing his work with
Many stories of incomparable beauty.
In his clear mind, Vedas reflected like
Objects in a mirror, totally devoid of
Contradictions and supported by
Reason to dispel doubts of atheism.
With his blessings Pandava prince
Arjuna visited heaven and obtained
Many divine weapons with which
He won the war to uphold Dharma.
When Dhritharashtra wanted to know
The progress and outcome of the war
The sage gave divine vision to Sanjaya
To witness the war and report to him.
During their stay in forest, when King
And Queen, grieved by the loss of sons,
Were exhausted by tapas, Vyasa, out of
Mercy, showed them their dead sons.
