MESSAGE FOR CONTEMPLATION.183
Radhe krishna,
Good morning and have a blessed day,
WHO AM I?
Swami Sivananda Who am 'I'? This question is answered. The real 'I' is not the body nor the senses, not the Prana nor the mind, not the intellect nor Ahamkara, not the Jiva nor Karana-Sarira. The real 'I' is the Innermost Atman. Such enquiry confers on one Atma-Jnana. O Mokshapriya! How can we apply the term "I" to the body visible to us? The body is inert and ignorant. It is a mixture of five elements. It is a mass of Tamas. It is perishable (Parichhinna or finite). Therefore, the term "I" cannot be applicable to it. Again, the term "I" cannot be applied to the ten organs which vitalise the body. The ten inert and separate sense-organs (Indriyas) are moved by the flitting mind. Salvation cannot be attained by bodily torture. Knowledge of Atman alone can give emancipation. - Swami Sivananda.
It is this way for the simple reason that Gurudev worked to create this ashram for this specific purpose. He gave utterance to the fact that he had provided here a total field and scope for our evolution. If we will approach it as such, shedding all inhibitions, clearing ourselves of preconceived notions and overcoming our intense preoccupation with our own human centre—which is a centre of opinions, conceptions, built-in reactions, prejudices and bias—then everywhere we turn we will see that this entire ashram is a rare gem, a rare gift for total evolution and perfection
Swami Chidananda.
