MESSAGE FOR CONNTEMPLATION.102

MESSAGE FOR CONTEMPLATION 102
Radhe krishna,
Good morning andhave a blessed day,

PLEASURE AND PAIN
Swami Sivananda

A drunkard has desire for liquor and so he experiences a little nerve-titillation or pleasure for the time being. A sober man who has no desire for liquor gets disgust even at the sight of liquor. He has no craving at all for liquor. Pleasure is the womb of pain. If you do not want to experience pain, give up pleasure. If you do not get tea, you experience pain. The mind remembers the pleasure it enjoyed when you took tea and now it experiences pain through memory of past pleasure when you do not get tea. If you do not want this pain, give up the tea-habit.

In the Gita it says: "A person is what he believes in.' And the key to this process of
successfully assimilating from whatever you learn and becoming what you assimilate is in
believing in what you want to become. Have firm and deep belief: "I believe, and I know I will be
what I believe. I will become what I believe because that is the truth. And, if I do believe, it will
certainly transform me into what I wish to become and believe in."
Swami chidananda.

Charity of things is of less consequence than possession of charitable feelings, and resorting to charitable speech, charitable demeanour, and charitable actions through a general charitable temperament. This is, in short, what is called self-sacrifice, for it involves parting with some part of the delights of the ego.

- Swami Krishnananda
