FRUITS OF SELF-REALISATION

He who has realised the Paramartha, Tattwa (the real Atman) gives up form, caste etc., and rests in his own Swaroop that is all-full, pure consciousness and bliss. The distinction of knower, knowledge and knowable does not exist in the Supreme Atman. As it is pure consciousness and bliss, It shines by itself only. The fire of knowledge that is caused by the constant churning of contemplation on the wood of Atman will totally burn away the fuel of ignorance. If the ignorance is annihilated by knowledge, the Atman will manifest itself, just as the sun manifests as soon as the dawn of day has dispelled -darkness.

 Worshipful homage to the supreme, eternal, cosmic Divine Spirit, who is our goal ultimate, who is the inner, silent, invisible director of all things—including our own life. May we recognise that this silent inner director is not only our eternal companion in life, but He is also an ever-present silent witness, who knows all things, who fathoms the innermost hidden recesses of our being— our mind, our intellect and the thoughts, memories, 

sentiments, emotions, fears, anxieties, uncertainties, inner motivations and the pride and prejudices that lurk within.

Withdraw yourself from external objects. Meditate and rest in your
soul. You will realise everlasting peace now. Nothing can bring you
peace, but yourself. Nothing can bring you peace, but the victory over
your lower self, triumph over your senses and mind, desires and
cravings. If you have no peace within yourself, it is vain to seek it
in external objects and outward sources.

Company of saints will take you to God quickly. The saints will make
you like themselves. The company of Sadhus will remove all the
impurities and make you pure. Their company will help you to remember
God constantly.

Peace is not in money, estate, bungalows and possessions. Peace does
not dwell in outward things, but within the soul. Money cannot give
you peace. You can purchase many things, but you cannot purchase
peace. You can buy soft beds, but you cannot buy sleep. You can buy
good food, but you cannot buy good appetite. You can buy good tonics,
but you cannot buy good health. You can buy good books, but you cannot
buy wisdom.

Death is beating its drum and coming nearer and nearer to you. Blow
the conch of OM. Put on the armour of discrimination. Wear the shield
of Brahman-Jnana. Death cannot harm thee. Thou art Immortal.

They enhance the spiritual vibrations of the ashram by their presence;
and, therefore, those
who permanently reside here in close proximity to Gurudev’s spiritual
presence receive, as it were,
a feast, a special shower of benedictions during this period. We are
given an opportunity of serving
them in any manner we can, of going out of ourselves to be helpful to
them, to elevate and sanctify
ourselves by selfless service. The Upanishads tell us that anyone who
gives us an opportunity for
paropakara (selfless service) is God. A visitor who gives us a chance
to adapt, adjust and
accommodate is our benefactor. Because Gurudev said that adapting and
adjusting ourselves is the
highest type of sadhana.

Peace is not in the heart of the carnal man. Peace is not in the
hearts of ministers, advocates, businessmen, dictators, kings and
emperors. Peace is in the hearts of Yogins, sages, saints and
spiritual men. It is in the heart of a desireless man, who has
controlled his senses and the mind. Greed, lust, jealousy, envy,
anger, pride and egoism are the enemies of peace. Slay these enemies
by the sword of dispassion, discrimination, and non-attachment. You
will enjoy perpetual peace.

He gives you such opportunities in this place where you are living
your serene life. He
brings occasions of inundating you with spirituality by bringing to
the ashram hundreds of sincere
seeking souls, so that your spiritual life once again becomes vibrant,
awake, alert and dynamic.
Why not see it in this way, rather than as an inconvenience? Instead
of looking at it in a
negative, non-productive way, why not look at it as a great
blessedness? They are not mere visitors.
They are devotees, sadhakas, lovers of God, people striving earnestly
like you for spiritual
perfection. So, with eagerness and longing to get away from their
secular atmosphere and have a little period of upliftment in a
spiritual atmosphere, they come for a week or two and fill this ashram
with the spiritual vibrations that emanate from their hearts and
minds, from their aspiration and
their vairagya and viveka.

The five Indriyas are a prolongation of the mind. Mind is a mass of
Indriyas. Mind is a consolidated Indriya. Indriya is mind in
manifestation. Indriya represents backwaters. The desire in the mind
to eat has manifested as tongue, teeth and stomach. If you can control
the mind you can control the Indriyas. If you have controlled the
Indriyas, you have already controlled the mind.


Bodies, names and forms are only instruments. The true Actor in this
world is Divinity. Realise this in every inch of His creation. Wake up
and shake off your ignorance. Feel, practise and become one with It.

THY ETERNAL HERITAGE

Abandon all desires and cravings. Crush this ego. Silence all
thoughts. Seek the Immortal Bliss. Seek it in your own heart. There is
a true, eternal happiness beyond sex, food, drink, etc. This is the
eternal bliss of Atma or Soul. Break your ego. Slay this mind. Control
the senses. Annihilate cravings and desires. Abandon attachment Plunge
in the chambers of your heart. Melt the mind in the deep Silence.
Meditate and realise the abiding Peace. This is thy eternal Heritage,
O Ram!

You can travel to the furthest corner of this world, and you will
still be living in Him,
moving in Him, having your being in Him. He will still be filling you
from the top of your head to
the tips of your toenails. You live in God; God lives in you. This is
the only truth. Your whole life is
filled with Divinity; your whole life is saturated with Divinity.
The entire universe is interpenetrated with the Divine Principle. To
live in this truth is to live
in God here and now, not after leaving this body, not in some
post-mortem existence. God lives in
you—radiant, resplendent, dazzling with the effulgence of a million
suns. That is how they refer to
this indwelling God in you. It is the central truth of your existence now, here.

Eyes can only see; ears can only hear; tongue can only taste; skin can
only touch; nose can only smell. But the mind can see, hear, taste,
touch and smell. All the sense-faculties are blended in the mind. You
can see and hear directly through the mind by Yogic practice
(clairvoyance and clairaudience). This blows out the Western
psychological theory of perception.

When you do a wrong action, the conscience pricks you. You experience
pinpricks. It says to you in a clear, small, shrill voice: "Do not do
this wrong action, my friend. It will bring misery to you." A
conscientious man at once ceases to act wrongly any further, and
becomes wise.

How can darkness prevail when God indwells your heart? How is it
possible to have
slumber in such a light? If you wake up in your consciousness to the
fact that you are filled with
brightness, that there is no darkness within you, that there is no
night of slumber, that there is a full
day of wakefulness, then you will be spiritually alert, you will be
spiritually awake. Your interior
will be in that state which your Upanishadic ancestors wanted it to
be: jagrata, uttishthata (awake,
arise).
This is the sadhana that is most pleasing to worshipful and beloved
Gurudev: that you all
move about as centres of awakened Divinity, so that everywhere you go
this Divinity radiates from
you, this Divinity finds expression through your thoughts, words and
actions, through the way you
live your life. And to that end, every now and then, he will give you
a push, a fresh impetus to stir
you up—slap you and wake you up, as it were.

Cultivate intense aspiration. Tear off old bad habits cultivate new
good habits. Eradicate evil traits. Cultivate divine virtues. Steady
the mind. Strengthen Sadhana Shakti. Be a silent witness, identify
with the Sakshi. Rise above body and mind. Now rest in your own
Swaroopa.

Utter the Name of the Lord with devotion. Feel His presence. See Him
in every face. There is no place where He is not. He is everywhere.
Read spiritual literature. Seek the company of the wise. Be regular in
your prayers.

VALUE OF BRAHMA JNANA

You may be a king, or an emperor this is of no use if you do not
possess devotion and wisdom. You may be an erudite scholar. You may
have the eight Siddhis. You may be beautiful and strong. You may be a
wonderful songster. You may know the sixty-four Kalas. You may be
famous in the whole world. All these are of no avail. If you have no
Brahma Jnana. Brahma Jnana alone can give you perfection.


And so long as you have not recognised this and embraced non-being, so
long as you have
not decided to annihilate the little “I”, so long the Being will ever
be the unknown.
Therefore, may the supreme, eternal, radiant Brahman and beloved and
worshipful Holy
Master bless us that we may all recognise the need, the importance,
the indispensable necessity of
awakening the Light within, of banishing the darkness of the little
“I”, which is the prolific source
of all problems, all sorrow, all troubles, all vexations. May they
bless us and grace us that we may
arouse the inner Light Divine and make ourselves shining centres of
that great Light of lights
beyond all darkness.
“I am in the Light. The Light is within me.” The mystic did not stop
with these two lines, but
added the third and most important one: “I am the Light.” May we all
have the aspiration and urge to
ponder this great truth, to ever deeply reflect and dwell upon this
great truth and crown ourselves
with blessedness, not in the distant future, but today, this hour, at
this moment!
